The task was to design a functional and aesthetically compelling sheet-metal object for serial production, working within a defined material and manufacturing process. The product was specified as a one-piece candle holder with a maximum of five bends.
stahl80 (steel80) is designed to hold a Maxi Rechaud candle. Rather than merely serving as a functional support for the flame, the object is intended to occupy and shape a space. Its height, proportions and minimal form give it a presence of its own, allowing the candle holder to be perceived as an object even when no candle is lit.
The entire object is developed from a single laser-cut sheet and formed through five precise bends.
