An add-on for the Toni-Areal that turns the everyday act of throwing something away into a small game.

My first project in the Industrial Design programme at ZHdK was centred around designing an “Add-On” for the Schoolcampus Toni-Areal. The aim was to create an object that responds to the existing architecture and its users while addressing a functional or social need through a minimal intervention.
I chose to work with the numerous standardised waste bins surrounding the building. The result is a funnel-like attachment that turns disposing of waste into a small game, similar to shooting a basketball. By encouraging people to aim their litter into the bin, the object playfully addresses littering while adding a more lively element to the otherwise static and cool atmosphere of the Toni-Areal.
The attachment is fixed through material tension alone, allowing it to be snapped on and off without permanently altering the existing bin.
